Early Thanksgiving! Who wouldn't want to go to Mock Manor in Omaha, NE for that celebration? There were 24 Heisey lovers in attendance for our final meeting of 2022. Our noon meal was the traditional turkey with all the trimmings – soooo delicious!
President John Mock called the meeting to order at 1:10 pm with a welcome to 3 guests from Sheridan, IN and thanks to the co-hosts Tom & Kathy Files and Jen & Kelly Bragg plus Jeanne Hobbs and Bucky Will for adding to the dessert table.
September minutes were approved, Treasurer's report given, and 2023 Officer nominations were made for the voting to occur in March 2023.
Eric Tankesley-Clarke gave an update on HCA Board news. Twelve GPHC members attended the PVM and Dave Spahr Fall Auction in Newark, OH. All agreed the auction offered many desirable Heisey glass temptations – and reported many of them now reside in our area.
Trudy Mock's “Martha Moment” was how to use a center filler (toilet paper roll core) in candy jars to help the candies appear to fill the jar. Trudy developed this solution after discovering her son ate many of the candies she was planning to use in her Fall color scheme.
Jean Will was the drawing winner of the raffle box that had been filled with super Heisey pieces by Bucky Will. Jean wanted to spread the cheer so she immediately became Auctioneer Jean and enthusiastically auctioned the contents. Seven winning bidders hauled in 10 beautiful pieces of Heisey. Bonus: As raffle winner, Jean will fill the box for our March 2023 meeting.
Our program was “Pitchers, Jugs, and Tankards” presented by Trudy and Eric. Two eight foot tables were crammed full of examples from Trudy supplemented by ones from Eric and a few other members. Eric provided so much good information from those two tables of examples. Heisey was very prolific in providing vessels to contain liquids. The size of some of the pitchers would require lots of strength when full! More respect for our elders. Thanks were given to Trudy and Eric for a great program.
Show and Tell was quite extensive – As mentioned, many of our members attended the Fall auction and they made a few stops along the way. Too many examples to list but following are some. Ande & Gregg: Empress cup with Chintz etching & Quator conserve with unknown cutting; Chris & Lehi: Twist cocktail shaker with original screw lid; Janet: Punty Band individual cream/Ivorina Verde/Lansing KS souvenir; Trudy & John: Quator hotel cream & sugar with elaborate cutting & Oval vase/Moongleam; Bucky: Miter Vase/Overcut; Mary & Gregg: Allen water bottle & Yeoman goblet/Max Seidel cutting; Kathy & Tom: 4 pieces with Houston Post, Fred Harvey, West Point, and St. Luke's Commandery etchings; Pat & Rex: 4 stems with Short Sailboat, Golf Scene, Club Drinking Scene, and Tavern etchings; Eric: Prism 8” ashtray/ground overall, Locket on Chain 8” nappy/Canary, #128 bar bottle stopper, Jamestown 12 oz. Mug/Tangerine handle, #5012 Urn marmalade and cover, Constellation old fashion.
A 50/50 auction of 7 nice Heisey lots donated by our members was held to raise money for our treasury. And Jean's generous donation of jam and jellies in various flavors sold well as usual.
President Mock adjourned the meeting so we could invade the kitchen for multiple desserts: pumpkin cake and 5 pies for our pleasure. Certainly something for everyone plus ice cream for pie al a mode.
The Mocks have numerous punch bowls on display in the kitchen. But they have recently added a unique punch bowl light fixture above their kitchen sink. Roy Eggert obtained a slightly nicked Beaded Panel and Sunburst punch bowl, drilled a hole in the bottom, and attached lighting wiring. The Mocks made a donation to HCA and had it professionally installed. We all immensely enjoyed seeing this repurposed Heisey statement every time we were in the kitchen.
Thank you, John & Trudy, for another great GPHC meeting at your lovely home.
