It was a beautiful day in Omaha, Nebraska when the Great Plains Heisey Club met at the home of John and Trudy Mock. Nineteen members and two guests enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by the Mocks. After lunch, everyone went to the lower level of the house in a food coma and were treated to a table full of unusual Heisey smoking items. We always have good food!
First, we had our business meeting. The minutes from the May 10 meeting were approved. Tom gave the Treasurer’s Report. Members are reminded to check the Great Plains Website for minutes, pictures and recipes. Members who attended the HCA Convention shared information and stories about the get together in Newark. Attendance at the convention was larger this year. Eric shared the HCA Annual Report with our members. Donna shared the items being produced by HCA this year for the gift shop.
We have three members on the HCA Auction Committee, so we had an auction update. Auction cataloging for the fall auction is rapidly approaching. Also, the committee is looking for a volunteer to help with the HiBid website.
Eric led the program on the smoking items and Kelly assisted him. It had been twelve years since the club had studied smoking items. We looked at the unusual, the showpieces, and the ones with great stories. The highlight was a Puritan large ashtray in Zircon. The eight-foot table was full of smoking items. (I should have counted them.)
We had a lively 50/50 auction with many members donating items.
Show and Tell included: No. 440 Daisy and Leaves Vase, No. 1540 Lariat Nappy with the loops turned to the inside, No. 3329 Bell Bottom Goblet, 355 Quator Domino Sugar, No. 1504 Old Sandwich Oyster Cocktails in Cobalt, No. 325 Pillows Fingerbowl, No. 1536 Military Ashtray with an elaborate cutting, and many more items.
Of course, our meeting ended on a high note with dessert! Banana Splits in Heisey Banana Split Dishes!
