Great Plains Heisey Club celebrated Kansas City barbeque on May 10, 2015. Lehi and Chris German hosted the club with an award winning barbeque lunch. Thirteen members enjoyed a great lunch. Lehi and Chris generously donated the proceeds from the lunch to the club treasury.
The minutes from the March 15 minutes were approved as posted on the Great Plains website. Tom gave the treasurer’s report and updated our membership numbers to 29 paid members. Tom then led a discussion on our annual contribution to HCA, which Donna will present at the HCA Convention in June. The club voted to donate $4000 to the HVAC fund.
Donna and Bucky gave an update about the HCA auctions. They are in need of someone to coordinate the HiBid online auction site. It was suggested to send out an E-Gram to the membership and see if there is a volunteer.
Eight of our members are attending the HCA Convention. Individuals were encouraged to donate items for the silent and live auctions as well as the hospitality room. Donna volunteered to donate an item for the club’s donation.
Since Eric could not attend, he sent a written report updating the Great Plains members. The updated Orchid and Rose booklets are finished. Admission to the museum is now free. He also highlighted many new items that will be in the gift shop this fall.
The members then held a discussion about the upcoming vote on the HCA Constitution and Bylaws changes.
Tom Files led the program on Imperial reproductions. Lehi is an avid collector of the reproduction animals, so in addition to Imperial animals the pool table was full of animals made by other companies from Heisey moulds. Tom also demonstrated how to use the black light.
Jean Will filled the raffle box and that lucky Bucky Will won it. Bucky kept one item and the other items were auctioned to benefit the club treasury.
Show and Tell included a little bit of everything. Some of the items shared were: No. 3404 Spanish comport; No. 7166 Moongleam liner; No. 1205 Fancy Loop celery; Several No. 1483 Stanhope items with a variety of etchings, Viking Ipswich candlesticks in red and green, Imperial Old Williamsburg pitcher in Amber, Imperial Whiirlpool cream and sugar in red, and a No. 1010 Decagon handled jelly.
The meeting adjourned with delicious desserts made by Donna. Look for the strawberry pie recipe on our website.
