Zoom! An ever present word in these days of the Covid pandemic. Our Great Plains Club had our first meeting of 2021 via Zoom aided by Caleb-Michael Files, our east coast techie member, at 1 pm on Saturday March 13 (we think all 19 sign-ins were fully dressed).
President John Mock and his wife, Trudy, were in Arizona so Tom Files moderated the meeting. The election of our club officers resulted in an instant replay: President John Mock, Treasurer Tom Files, and Secretary Kathy Files with Eric Tankesley-Clarke reappointed as our Program Director.
Tom Files gave our Treasury report and thanked our members for their dues and the extra donations made by many. We have 39 members in our club and an account balance of $1,680. Attendees approved making a monetary donation to the Heisey Museum Endowment Fund in memory of Bob Tankesley-Clarke.
Our club is gearing up for online bidding at the HCA Spring Auction and awaiting word on the status of the Convention. Tom reported the Museum lower level flooring contract had been awarded and installation of the ceramic and carpet tiles should be finished by the end of March. We're looking forward to seeing the completed Museum flooring project – all 3 floors – resulting from the donations made by Great Plains members.
Our combined program and show & tell were in honor of St. Patrick's Day and focused mainly on Emerald and Moongleam Heisey pieces. Our little Leprechauns showed the following:
Mary & Gregg – Coarse Rib goblet in Moongleam; Ridgeleigh cordial
Jen & Kelly – Moongleam Empress center handled tray and Twist ice bucket
Milt – Moongleam Narrow Flute w/Rim dice sugar tray with gold trimmed creamer
Chris & Lehi – Imperial green Sparky; Fish Bowl full of 'green' $2 bills
Kathy & Tom – Emerald: Pineapple & Fan cake salver; Pointed Oval & Diamond Point Pitcher and Cream, Sugar, and Spooner
Caleb-Michael – 2 Glenford sodas and 1 bar, all with Moongleam base
Donna – Plantation marmalade set with tray and one #12 ladle
Jean & Bucky – Moongleam: Tudor footed jelly; Coarse Rib jelly; Frog plate; Twist mustard with paddle and underplate; Bamboo vase; pair #29 salts (sadly one without glass top broken earlier in the day)
Bev & Bob – Complete table setting of Ipswich Moongleam (voted top wowser of the day) plus Old Sandwich Moongleam mug
Glen – Pair Moongleam Pembroke candlesticks with crystal prisms
Ande & Greg – Emerald: Winged Scroll cruet; Fancy Loop nappy; Pineapple & Fan hotel creamer;
Moongleam: Twist bonbon, nuts, and cruet; Crystal Old Sandwich beer mug
Our next meeting is scheduled for May 8 at Donna Nyght's home in Shawnee, KS. We voted to explore having a hybrid meeting of Zoom + in-person contingent upon progress against the pandemic. Visit our website at greatplainsheiseyclub.org to keep up with the latest info – thanks to Mary and Gregg
