The Great Plains Heisey Club met on May 16, at the home of John and Trudy Mock in Omaha. A delicious lunch was served to seventeen members. A special thanks to Jennifer and Kelly Bragg for assisting the hosts.
After lunch, President Donna Nyght called the meeting to order. The hat was passed for lunch and John and Trudy graciously donated the collection to the club treasury.
The March minutes were approved as corrected. The March minutes and pictures are posted on the Great Plains Heisey Club website.
Tom gave the treasurer’s report. He led a discussion on how much our club will donate to HCA at the HCA Convention June 17-20. It was decided to donate to the HVAC fund as many units will be needing to be replaced.
Bucky and Donna gave an update on the HCA Spring Auction. In person attendance has steadily decreased and the prices for common glass were very low. Donna said she was meeting with the HCA Board about the auctions. Members made several comments about the auctions.
Bucky gave a board update and members asked many questions regarding the HCA Website, HCA financials and the HVAC at the museum.
The HCA Convention is June 17-20. Seven members from the club are attending. A comment was made that in years past our club would have as many as twenty-four attending. Age and distance has played a factory in fewer attending.
The National Depression Glass Association Convention and Show is in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, on June 6 and 7. Numerous club members will be hosting a Heisey information table there.
Our club roster was approved for voting at the convention. There are three candidates running for three board positions.
The club discussed the new Heisey Museum Website. Bucky said comments should be made to Mary Olson or Martha McGill.
There is a change in future meetings. The September meeting will be hosted by the Cameron’s and the November meeting will be hosted by the Lucke’s.
A discussion was also held about future club meetings in general. Most of our members drive at least two hours to meetings. We only have six members that are hosting. A suggestion was made to have the March and November meetings virtual. No decisions were made and the discussion will continue at future meetings.
Members gave a health update on many past members.
Tom Files gave the program on unusual Heisey cream and sugars. He is giving a seminar at the HCA Convention, so the club was treated to a preview.
There were a few items for the 50/50 auction.
Show and tell included 4027 Cristos Decanter in Sahara, 1184 Yeoman Cigarette and Ashtray in Sahara with a lid, and a 1497 Boat Floral Bowl.
During dessert we celebrated four May birthdays. We celebrated Jean Will’s 97th birthday.
Our next meeting is in Leavenworth, Kansas, on July 11.
