Fourteen individuals gathered in the home of John and Trudy in Omaha, Nebraska on October 16, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. After viewing the John and Trudy's Heisey Collection, the group began putting together the elements needed to form an official Heisey study group.Members decided to stay with the name "Great Plains Heisey Club," but emphasize that the club has members from many states such as Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, and Colorado.
Tom was elected president, Mary was elected Secretary, and John was elected treasurer. All agreed that the initial terms of office will be for one year. Tom appointed Trudy to be in charge of membership and publicity and Harold will be in charge of programs. Additional committees may be added later, but initially the members thought these were sufficient.
The group decided to meet five times a year in the months of March, May, July, September, and November. Meetings will be held initially in members homes the second Saturday of these months at 3:00 p.m.
Dues for the group will be $5.00 per couple annually. After much discussion, the members voted to officially affiliate with the Heisey Collectors of America. John Mock was charged with sending the $25.00 initiation fee to HCA. Tomwill work on by-laws for our next organizational meeting. All members of the Great Plains Heisey Study Group must also be members of HCA.
The next meeting will be held at the home of Pat in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Mary will send out notices and a map. It will be held November 20 at 7:00 p.m. Tom and Kathy will present a brief program about the history of Heisey and the topic of the night will be Heisey candlesticks. Everyone is requested to bring as many candlesticks as they want to show and tell.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 and dessert was served by John and Trudy.
