The Great Plains Heisey Club

Members from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska

Mary Cameron - Ames, Iowa

HCA Board of Directors, 2010-2014

Mary Cameron

Mary Cameron started collecting Heisey when she acquired pieces her mother and godmother had received for wedding gifts many years earlier. She collects baskets and cake salvers, but also likes goblets and just about anything else Heisey. Her husband, Gregg, says she should focus, but this has not happened yet.

Mary and Gregg are founding members of the Great Plains Heisey Club of Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa. Mary and fellow collector, Marilyn Sampson from Nebraska felt that the “great plains” needed a study club. Wonderful friendships and good times have been a result of this venture and yes, education about Heisey glass. Mary feels that being a member of a study club is one of the best things a Heisey collector can do. The opportunity to learn about Heisey and see pieces of Heisey that normally are not seen in Iowa has been fantastic.

May has spent 35 years in public education, most recently as a school library consultant at the Iowa Department of Education. She will be retiring on June 24, and is looking forward to finding new ways to keep busy. Mary and Gregg live in Ames, Iowa. Mary has served on many state boards, city boards and foundation boards in Iowa and Ames.

As a board member, Mary would like to see the endowment fund grow for continued long-term support of the HCA Museum.
